Hello, I am Rosa—an ancient, cursed Scrimshaw Doll (as I am certain you are aware by now). But here is a part of my journey you have not yet heard about…
When I ended up in Covington, Oklahoma, belonging to Pam McCauley, I thought she would be the one I helped find true love. But, as it turned out, her friend, Julia Bennett, was the one who needed me. Julia moved away ten years earlier, but came back home to attend Pam’s husband’s funeral.
While Pam was going off the deep end, thinking her husband had died because he betrayed her, Julia was dealing with some issues of her own. She discovered the embers of her old flame had not yet died, but Sheriff Jake Devlin had always been too good for an orphan whose careless actions had caused a man’s death years before. Now, others have died—you wonder if it was me, am I correct? Perhaps. Or, perhaps something less magical and more human is to blame. Nevertheless, secrets are unfolding that will affect the lives of everyone involved.
Amidst the danger and betrayal, I am waiting for my opportunity. Julia and Jake belong together. Only the greatest loves would survive all the years and all the hardships the two of them have endured. But, without my help, they might foolishly throw it all away. I will go to great lengths to protect my owners—great and sometimes unethical if not downright criminal lengths—but to bring about true love, I will go to the ends of the earth. And with these two stubborn people, I might have to do just that.
So, what do you think, now that you have gotten to know me better? Do you think my motives are altruistic, or do you find them a little—unscrupulous?
Find out how things turn out for Julia and Pam in Thicker than Water by Alicia Dean:
Sometimes, secrets refuse to stay buried–
A ten-year-old accidental killing and an ancient cursed doll are only part of Julia Bennett’s problems. When she returns to her hometown of Covington, Oklahoma for an old friend’s funeral, she’s thrust into the middle of a murder case–and discovers she never stopped loving her high school sweetheart.
Jake Devlin is now the sheriff of Covington and faced with solving a murder. He isn’t surprised to find Julia in the middle of things. She still seems like the troublemaker whose reckless mistake caused a man’s death years ago–and who broke his heart when she left him without so much as a goodbye.
Jake makes it clear he’s over her, and Julia can’t wait to leave Covington behind. But when another friend dies, she knows she must stay. Can they put the past behind them and stop a killer before he claims another victim?
